Girl Guides: TD Tree Days

During the month of September, TD Friends of the Environment sponsored TD Tree days, a volunteer program in over 135 locations across Canada. Girl Guides were again invited to help plant 40,000 trees and demonstrate leadership in environmental stewardship.

Edmonton - October 21, 2012 - During the month of September, TD Friends of the Environment sponsored TD Tree days, a volunteer program in over 135 locations across Canada. Girl Guides were again invited to help plant 40,000 trees and demonstrate leadership in environmental stewardship.

Here in Edmonton planting took place in two locations, Hermitage Park and Solicitor General Staff College. At Hermitage Park, the girls helped plant 600 native plants, including red osier dogwood, alder, tamarack and willow. The trees were planted around the lake, providing valuable shelter for the ducks and small animals that call the park home.

The Girl Guide program challenges girls to take action to make the world a better place, and planting trees is a step towards achieving this year’s national service project, “Operation Earth Action”. By promoting these initiatives, Girl Guides empowers girls to be the environmental leaders of the future.
