Local soccer club hosts sixth annual Food Bank friendly

Rionero Soccer Club will host the 6th Annual Co-Ed Food Bank Friendly on Friday December 21st, from 8pm-10pm at the South Soccer Centre. The charity match has become the marquee event for the EDSA club, which helps raise donations for the Edmonton Food Bank.

Edmonton - December 19, 2012 - Rionero Soccer Club is pleased to be hosting our 6th Annual Co-Ed Food Bank Friendly on Friday December 21st 8pm at the South Soccer Centre. The charity match has become the marquee event for our club, not only from a sheer numbers standpoint but more importantly, for the contribution it provides for families in need during the holiday season.

The fee to participate in the two hour co-ed scrimmage series is a non-perishable food donation or a $5 cash donation, which are all donated to the Edmonton Food Bank prior to Christmas Day. While the event has been a great success from its inception, we have taken great pride in watching it grow on an annual basis and more importantly, being able to help out even more Edmontonians during the holiday season.

Back in 2007, we managed to raise just over 100 pounds in food donation and have seen that number triple in recent years. The reason the Food Bank game continues to become bigger and better is simple...the people.

The event truly embodies the purpose of Rionero Soccer Club, which illustrates our motto of “creating community through soccer”. Rionero Soccer is proud to hold this yearly event and thankful to all those who have attended in the past and help the soccer community give back to our fair city.
