Hockey stars away from the ice

Hockey stars away from the ice
When it comes to our favourite hockey players, we all think we know just about everything there is to know about some of our games greats. However, as sports stars are now brands in themselves and have so much more to their professional lives away from the ice, we take a look at how our superstars behave once the sticks are down, and how many have turned their skills into cash by other means.

Toronto - March 5, 2016 - When it comes to our favourite hockey players, we all think we know just about everything there is to know about some of our games greats. However, as sports stars are now brands in themselves and have so much more to their professional lives away from the ice, we take a look at how our superstars behave once the sticks are down, and how many have turned their skills into cash by other means.

We have seen various other examples of professional hockey player’s moving into different career paths once their playing days are over. Greg Mueller, former German hockey star, has since retiring won over $2 million on the poker scene. Winning big through gambling has certainly been more successful for Mueller, who’s playing days were spent in the German DEL. Other sports stars who have been successful through poker include tennis star Rafael Nadal and former Brazilian soccer player Ronaldo. With sportsmen having such a competitive edge to them, perhaps more athletes will turn to the casino once their playing days are over. Partner Media help to provide those of you who fancy getting in on the action a perfect opportunity to gamble safely and responsibly.

With a gambling culture certainly rife within hockey, as well as other American sports, it is little wonder why the ease at which gambling is now available to individuals through online casino’s and bookmakers, more and more stars will take to the art once finishing their professional careers. Sites such as Lucky Nugget Casino give athletes and ex professionals the easiest of access to potentially major earnings through their online betting portals. With starts pocketing mega salaries through both their team’s as well as endorsement deals, the prospect of losing a grand or two is unlikely to deter players.

Sidney Crosby

The Pittsburgh Penguins captain has in recent times suffered from a series of injuries as well as being part of an unsuccessful play-off team. However, having led the points per game statistics in the NHL in four of the past five seasons, Crosby is still recognized as one of the games greats. But what do we know about the Halifax born centre away from the ice?

When you are one of your sports most prized assets, the offers simply come flooding in. Having already signed what was then the richest endorsement deal in NHL history with sportswear giants Reebok, worth an estimated $1.4 million, deals with the likes of Bell and Gatorade meant that Crosby was certainly reaping the rewards of his skills. Despite these deals, Crosby is a man with his feet still firmly on the ground. Keeping an eye on life after hockey, Crosby has started thinking about his legacy, something he hopes to shape through charity and his foundation. Having also recently completed a college course from Southern New Hampshire University, it is safe to say that ‘Sid’ is a man who knows he has to have a life after hockey.

Carey Price

Price, the Montreal Canadien’s goalie who won just about every major individual award possible last season, has seen his stock rise considerably over the past few years. With goaltending being a fickle position, in that you cannot count on steady, consistent play year on year, how does one of the season’s stand-out performers operate away from the game? Price has perhaps had more time to think about his options after being injured for the past few months.

With hobbies including hunting, fishing and golf, Price certainly enjoys keeping active in his spare time. However, he is also switched on when it comes to his business deals. Having signed a multi-year deal with Under Armour back in 2011, Price is also endorsed by sports nutrition company Biosteel, whose products you can see Price sampling at the end of each quarter.

Jonathan Toews

Captaining the Chicago Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup victories in six years, Jonathan Toews has been one of the most consistent players in NHL over the last decade. The defensive forward constantly shows off his skills and has some of the best statistics in the league when it comes to scoring as well as defence.

Having recently joined the world of social media through Twitter, perhaps Toews too, even at just the age of 27, is looking at methods to expand his brand awareness. As one of the NHL’s top earners, Toews certainly does not have to worry about finances for the time being. Recently stating that if he were not an ice hockey player he would have his own business, Toews possibly has some entrepreneurial spirit running through his veins that we will see in the future. If all else fails, Toews could turn to the casino and look to follow on the footsteps of Greg Mueller.

Tyler Seguin

At still just 24 years of age, Tyler Seguin has the NHL at his feet. Already considered one of the best offensive players in the league, Seguin has the potential to be one of the Dallas Stars all time greats.

As an investors dream, Seguin is in no shortage of endorsement deals, and looks set to earn millions throughout his lucrative career. Deals with the likes of Dunkin’ Donuts, Under Armour and Biosteel are already in place and Seguin has the potential to be one of the most endorsed athletes in the game. Long term friends with rapper Mike Stud, who has name dropped Seguin in some of his music, the centre also founded the Seguin Stars foundation after another friend suffered from a spinal cord injury. Having recently launched his own hat range, featuring his initials on the front, Seguin has eyes on branching out this particular area of his professional life.
