Spits cant pull off third straight comeback, fall to Soo 3-1
Rookie Barrett Hayton’s first Ontario Hockey League goal turned out to be the winner, as the Soo Greyhounds beat the Windsor Spitfires 3-1 on Thursday night at the WFCU Centre. The loss was the first of the season for Windsor (2-1-0-0), which got its only goal on the night from rookie Cole Purboo – his third in as many games and 25 saves from Mikey DiPietro.

Windsor - September 29, 2016 - Rookie Barrett Hayton’s first Ontario Hockey League goal turned out to be the winner, as the Soo Greyhounds beat the Spitfires 3-1 on Thursday night at the WFCU Centre.

The loss was the first of the season for Windsor (2-1-0-0), which got its only goal on the night from rookie Cole Purboo – his third in as many games and 25 saves from Mikey DiPietro.

The Spits gave up the first goal of the game for the third straight outing, but were unable to come back as they had in their Opening Night 4-1 win over Erie back on September 22nd and in a 5-2 win in Sault Ste Marie the following night.

“I think our guys are disappointed in how we played and the coaching staff is also disappointed,” said head coach Rocky Thompson.

Bobby McIntyre (3) opened the scoring for Sault Ste Marie (2-1-0-0) at the 6:29 mark of the first period and David Miller (4) sealed the win with an empty net goal at 19:02 of the third.

The Spits are right back at it on Friday night as they travel to Mississauga (7:05), before landing in Oshawa for a date with the Generals on Sunday evening (6:05).

Both games will be carried on AM800 CKLW and picked up by CogecoTV here in Windsor.
