Memorial Cup Memories - Great new series on HockeyDocs
As a kid, I grew up as a huge Cornwall Royals fan. I was too young to remember their 1972 Memorial Cup victory with the likes of Bob Murray, John Wensink, Al Sims, Blair MacDonald and Richard Brodeur. However, I fondly remember their back to back cups in 1980 and 1981 with star studded lineups that included Dan Daoust, Dale Hawerchuk, Doug Gilmour, Scott Arniel, Dave Ezard and others!

Stoney Point - May 12, 2019 - As a kid, I grew up as a huge Cornwall Royals fan.

This week on Twitter, I stumbled across a new online channel called HockeyDocs.com. The site describes itself as “a new Video on Demand channel that delivers original hockey documentary films and series plus special behind-the-scenes bonus features.” The site is managed by Aaron & Angela Bell, out of Belleville, Ontario. Many of you will be familiar with Aaron’s OHL photos as we have used many of them here on HometownHockey.ca.

In timely fashion, they are currently showcasing a series called, “Memorial Cup Memories”. The site mentions that the “Memorial Cup is widely considered to be the most difficult trophy in hockey to win. Hear the stories of some of the greatest junior hockey teams in history as they persevered through tragedy and adversity to add their names to the magnificent history of the Memorial Cup.”

This morning over a couple cups of coffee, I thoroughly enjoyed Episode 1 of Season 1 which chronicled the back-to-back championships of the Cornwall Royals. It sure brought back a ton of great memories from my childhood. It was great to hear Crawford, Gilmour, Hawerchuk, Arniel and others reflect back on that impressive run. At the time, the Royals were the first team in Memorial Cup history to win three cups within a ten year span.

Tonight over a glass of wine or two, I look forward to watching Episode 4 which will highlight my new team – the Windsor Spitfires. I can’t wait to watch the balance of the episodes!

If you are a junior hockey fan, do yourself a favour and sign-up at HockeyDocs.com. and watch free for a limited time! Great memories depending on your team and great documentaries of junior hockey. Great job to the Bells on putting this series together.
