Chicago - February 25, 2015 - Chicago Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane will be out approximately 12 weeks after he had successful surgery Wednesday to repair a broken left clavicle sustained Tuesday against the Florida Panthers, the Blackhawks announced.

"The procedure went very well and we anticipate a full recovery in approximately 12 weeks," Blackhawks head physician Dr. Michael Terry said in a statement.

Kane's recovery will keep him out likely until the Western Conference Final. The injury occurred at 7:49 of the first period when Kane went hard into the boards following a cross-check by defenseman Alex Petrovic.

Chicago placed Kane on long-term injured reserve Wednesday. The Blackhawks recalled forward Teuvo Teravainen from Rockford of the American Hockey League and sent defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk to the AHL.

Kane had 64 points, tied with Jakub Voracek of the Philadelphia Flyers and Nicklas Backstrom of the Washington Capitals for the NHL lead. Kane led the Blackhawks in points, goals (27) and assists (37).

On the play that caused Kane's injury, he lost his balance after the hit by Petrovic and fell hard into the boards along the half wall by the right circle in the Panthers defensive zone. Kane's left shoulder appeared to take the brunt of the impact.

Petrovic was assessed a minor penalty for cross-checking. The Blackhawks scored on the ensuing power play on their way to a 3-2 shootout win.

"You've got the leading scorer in the game on your team, so that's a very valuable asset. He makes a lot of things work for us," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said after the game. "We missed him for the majority of [the game Tuesday], and it was one of those where we were good for 40 and hung on there at the end."

Teravainen, 20, was selected by the Blackhawks with the 18th pick of the 2012 NHL Draft. In 15 NHL games he has two goals and two assists; in 39 AHL games he has six goals and 25 points.
