The fireworks will now start at 9:06 instead of the originally planned 10:06 due to the threat of severe thunderstorms in the Windsor Essex region. There will be a free shuttle service leaving from Devonshire Mall.

A cluster of thunderstorms is moving eastwards across southern lower Michigan and is expected to reach Southwestern Ontario around 4 or 5 pm EDT. A few of these thunderstorms may be capable of producing very strong wind gusts, as well as potentially large hail of 2 cm or more. This round of thunderstorms should move past by early evening but more thunderstorms are possible later this evening into the overnight hours. These may be severe as well. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn't a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. Stay away from all windows, skylights and doors. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required.
