Windsor planning to welcome Syrian Refugees
The City of Windsor is preparing to welcome refugees from Syria in the coming weeks, but how many and exactly when the refugees will arrive are still to be determined. On Tuesday, the Federal Government is expected to share Canada’s plan for welcoming up to 25,000 refugees to the country, and once those details are known, it will position Windsor better to respond to questions from the community and receive information from citizens about donations.

Windsor - November 23, 2015 - The City of Windsor is preparing to welcome refugees from Syria in the coming weeks, but how many and exactly when the refugees will arrive are still to be determined.

When will we know more?

On Tuesday, the Federal Government is expected to share Canada’s plan for welcoming up to 25,000 refugees to the country, and once those details are known, it will position Windsor better to respond to questions from the community and receive information from citizens about donations.

The City will utilize the 311/211 service and a dedicated page on the City Website will be introduced to provide information to residents. Both should be ready to help by the end of the week, well ahead of the arrival of any refugees.

It’s worth noting that Windsor already welcomes between two hundred and five hundred refugees annually, from all over the world, including many from Syria, so agencies and support are in place to help.

Please check the City Website later this week, or call 311 if in need of information or if you’re looking for some way to help.
