Windsor - September 27, 2012 - In their biggest test of the young season, the Windsor Spitfires beat the Kitchener Rangers 4-2 at the WFCU Centre. The Rangers are the fourth ranked junior team in the country. The Spits played a much more disciplined game this time around and put in a solid three period effort for a big win in front of 5,318 fans.

Chris Marchese's second goal of the game with just 43.5 seconds left to go in the game lifted the Spits to victory. Marchese roofed a shot just over Franky Palazzese's shoulder after breaking down the right side. Michael Clarke cemented the victory for Windsor with an empty netter with just a few seconds remaining.

Spits goaltender Jaroslav Pavelka had a huge second period and kept his team in the game when they needed him the most. Kitchener fired 18 shots at the Windsor keeper in the middle frame and he stopped every one of them. He made a big save just thirty seconds after Derek Schoenmaker put the Spits up 2-1 and then Pavs robbed former Cornwall Colt Eric Ming later in the period.

Three minutes into the third, Spits Patrick Sieloff threw a huge open ice hit on Justin Bailey just in front of the penalty box. Kitchener's Curtis Meighan was quick to challenge Sieloff. When the dust settled, Meighan received two minutes for instigating, five for fighting and a ten minute misconduct. Seiloff was given five for charging, five for fighting and a ten minute misconduct. In the powerplay that followed, Tobias Rieder tied the game at two for Kitchener.

Brent Pederson had the other goal for Kitchener. Windsor outshot Kitchener 37-31 in a very entertaining game.

The Spits are back in action tomorrow night when they travel to Mississauga to take on the Steelheads. The team returns home on Sunday for a 2:00 pm start against the Sudbury Wolves.
