Patrick Sieloff has only played 10 Ontario Hockey League games with the Windsor Spitfires but he has already made his presence felt. The eighteen year old defenceman was acquired by the Spits in a trade that sent Jack Campbell to the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds last November.

Windsor - October 20, 2012 - Patrick Sieloff has only played 10 Ontario Hockey League games with the Windsor Spitfires but he has already made his presence felt. The eighteen year old defenceman was acquired by the Spits in a trade that sent Jack Campbell to the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds last November.

Sieloff split his time last season with the United States National Juniors and Under 18 teams. He was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, making him the Spits’ highest drafted NHL prospect.

The Michigan native who is 6’0” tall and weighs 198 pounds ran up 189 penalty minutes in 112 US National Team Development Program games and 121 PIMs in 60 USHL games.

The advanced talent analysis on Sieloff suggested he was a "tough, stay-at-home defenseman with a bit of offensive upside to his game. He is solidly built and isn't afraid to make use of his size or drop the gloves on occasion. But Sieloff is not just a goon as he is already a very good defender in his own zone and has the ability to at least get plays started from his own end of the ice. He is an effective penalty killer and has some leadership skills to go along with his grit." - HockeysFuture.com.

Spits fans are already very well acquainted with the toughness that Sieloff brings to the WFCU Centre. Last month in a game against Kitchener, number ten threw a huge open ice hit on Justin Bailey just in front of the penalty box. Kitchener's Curtis Meighan was quick to challenge Sieloff. When the dust settled, Meighan received two minutes for instigating, five for fighting and a ten minute misconduct. Seiloff was given five for charging, five for fighting and a ten minute misconduct.

Just this week against the Erie Otters, Sieloff threw another huge hit that got national attention on TSN. Sieloff stepped into Otters rookie Hayden Hodgson with a thunderous body check just inside the blue line. Erie defenceman Adam Pelech jumped Sieloff and was given two minutes for instigating, five for fighting and ejected from the game. Sieloff was not penalized, as the referees obviously agreed with me and Spits fans that it was a clean hit.

The 2012-13 OHL Season is still young, however Sieloff has already brought Windsor fans to their feet on a number of occasions. He has been a great addition to the Spitfires blueline and is exactly the kind of player that you want playing on your team. He truly is a treat to watch.
