Windsor - July 18, 2012 - There has been considerable talk show chatter and countless media reports about the Toronto Maple Leafs making a move to acquire Roberto Luongo from the Vancouver Canucks. A less costly alternative, both from a trade and contract perspective, would be Dallas Stars' prospect Jack Campbell.

Canadian hockey fans will remember Campbell as the standout goaltender who backstopped Team USA to gold at the World Junior Championships a few years ago. Campbell, 20, was drafted in the first round (11th overall) by Dallas in 2010.

Campbell currently plays for the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League and before that he played for both the Windsor Spitfires and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League.

Kari Lehtonen is only 28 years old and as such the Stars will be able to count on their number one goalie for years to come. Lehtonen's reign as the team's top puck blocker will keep Campbell from being the starter there for a while. The depth Dallas has between the pipes can be levered to acquire help in other areas.

Campbell posted an OHL record of 45-29-9 with a save percentage of 0.894. In six AHL games, Campbell posted three wins, one shutout and a .920 save percentage.

Campbell is an American born player and that trait seems to be consistent with at least one that Leafs GM Brian Burke covets. With Campbell, the Maple Leafs will have a solid goalie to split time with James Reimer, until the Michigan native is ready to be crowned the top goalie in Leafs Nation.

Seems like a good fit, doesn't it? Brian, its time to make the call to the 214 area code!
