Edmonton - August 4, 2012 - Ronald McDonald House® Northern Alberta, in cooperation with FC Edmonton Soccer Club and a team of partners, will host a 48 Hour Guinness World Record™ Video Game Marathon August 6, 7 and 8th on West Edmonton Mall’s NewCap stage. The 48 hour, three day event will attempt to break the current 38 hour Guinness World Record™ for the longest video game marathon playing a soccer game. The FC Edmonton match on August 8th is also a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House. Tickets for the August 8th game and FC Edmonton merchandise will be available at the event with a portion of the proceeds from the showdown going to help Ronald McDonald House provide a safe, supportive place for families seeking medical treatment in the city to stay and heal.

In cooperation with FC Edmonton©, EA Sports™, West Edmonton Mall, Flaman Fitness®, The Brick, Mr Mikes®, Coke®, NOS Energy Drink®, and McDonalds®, the event will bring attention to the important work being done by Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta. On the morning of August 6th, two participants will take to the NewCap stage. They will begin playing EA Sports’ “FIFA 12” and will continue until the 48 hour period is up. Sponsors will be present, providing participants with food and necessary equipment. Organizers of the event are currently in need of witnesses to cover 4 hour shift throughout the 48 hour period. Those interested in helping the charity fundraiser can contact jb@andstones.ca to volunteer their time.

“All you need to get involved is a desire to do something you’re good at, something that you like, something you can do, and you’re welcome to help,” said Martin Dugas, Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House® Northern Alberta. “This event is a perfect example of that. The House does best when we get out of the way of the kindness of the community.”

Founded in 2010, FC Edmonton, one of the event's main sponsors, has since been involved in various not-for-profit projects.

“The whole FC Edmonton team is excited to help to give something back to the community in this fun, entertaining way,” said Tom Leip, General Manager of FC Edmonton. “We believe in the work they’re doing at Ronald McDonald House Northern Alberta, we’re glad to be involved.” FC Edmonton will be selling tickets and merchandise with a portion of proceeds going towards Ronald McDonald House® Northern Alberta.

The two participants, Jordan Bloemen and Scott Francis Winder, will represent FC Edmonton and Ronald McDonald House® Northern Alberta respectively.

“I have a huge place in my heart for both the Ronald McDonald House and our local soccer team. It seemed like a great idea to blend the two of them into a way to get involved,” said Scott Francis Winder, President of the Red Shoe Society - a charitable society that supports the Ronald McDonald House® Northern Alberta.

A press conference and media kickoff will be held at 8:00 A.M. at West Edmonton Mall’s NewCap Stage on Monday, August 6th immediately before the event begins.

Since opening in 1985, Ronald McDonald House® Northern Alberta has seen and helped 25,000 people providing a home away from home for families of sick children seeking treatment in the city. It’s one of 13 houses in Canada, one of 315 around the world; a global neighbourhood of homes helping families heal.
