Cornwall - Jan. 24, 2011 - Under first-year head coach Graham Midgley, the St. Lawrence College Cornwall men's indoor soccer team went 1-2 at the Centennial Invitational in Toronto on Saturday.

"We identified the areas where we have to improve to be successful and will work diligently on these for the tournament at George Brown in February," Midgley stated.

The Sharks played their first game against the Centennial Alumni team and got off to a quick start playing some technically sound soccer with great intensity to keep the game fast paced. After the final whistle, SLC Cornwall came out on top with a 4-3 win, with Richard Asanti scoring two and Faucy Brand and Aaron Villaneuve netting one apiece.

In the second contest, the Sharks were on the wrong side of a 3-2 decision that went to Conestoga. A few errors early in the game put the Sharks down quickly, but they changed formations but time ran out. Villaneuve scored his second goal of the tournament, while Francisco Gomez earned his first of the day.

Against Fleming, the Sharks goalkeeper Paul Crooke started the game battling an injury he suffered in the last game, and was forced out of the game early forcing SLC Cornwall to adjust its lineup. As the changes were being made, the Sharks found themselves down 3-0 after a counterattack and were unable to recover.

SLC Cornwall will be back in action on Feb. 12 at the George Brown Invitational in Toronto.
