Cornwall - Mar. 15, 2011 - The arrival of spring will also usher in a new golf season, and local golfers will have a chance to get into the swing of things later this month.

To help usher in the new golf season, the Cornwall Public Library will be hosting "Fit For Tee-Off: Golf Biomechanics for an Efficient Swing" on March 31.

The session will be hosted by trained physiotherapist Scott Dunne of Upper Canada Physiotherapy.

The clinic will explore the game of golf from an exercise physiology and biomechanics perspective for improved performance and injury prevention. This talk will include analyzing golf swings of the pros to see how they make it look so effortless and effective.

Registration for the free March 31 clinic (taking place at 7 p.m.) can be done in person at the library or by calling 613-932-4796. Limited seating is available.

Scott Dunne is a Canadian trained Physiotherapist and is the owner and director of Upper Canada Physiotherapy. He is a certified Personal Trainer, certified Health and Fitness Consultant, was the student therapist for the varsity basketball and football teams, and has developed a passion for public speaking and sharing health related information.

Scott received a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy degree from the University of Toronto in 2007. While studying he developed a special interest in orthopedic physiotherapy and a "hands-on" approach to clinical practice. Since graduating, he has been fortunate to receive invaluable mentorship as a professional physiotherapist; first as a new graduate while working in Cornwall and then in Calgary where he worked with advanced manual therapists in a busy downtown practice. In Calgary, Scott also worked alongside the creators of the FITforeGOLF group which has added a whole new dimension to his clinical practice. While out west he spoke regularly at seminars on topics such as the physiology of running and on the biomechanics of golf.
