Colts goalie sets new record in win over Nepean
Nepean's Daniel Altshuller makes a big save during a game against the Cornwall Colts on Thursday night at the civic complex. It was the Colts goalie, Pete Karvouniaris, who stole the show as he picked up his record-setting 37th win in the 3-1 Colts victory.

Cornwall - Feb. 10, 2011 - Colts netminder Pete Karvouniaris picked up his record-setting 37th regular season win on Thursday night, and he did it in style.

The 20-year-old goalie made 36 saves - including a number of big stops in the second and third periods - to help secure a 3-1 victory for the Colts over the visiting Nepean Raiders.

With the win, Karvouniaris set a new record for regular season wins by a goalie, surpassing the previous high of 36 which was set by a Pembroke goalie in 1987-88.

The win also helped Karvouniaris maintain his league-best 2.10 goals against average (GAA).

The veteran goalie certainly proved his worth on Thursday night as the visiting Raiders outshot the Colts 37-23.

Karvouniaris managed to hold the door shut while the Colts built a lead on first period goals by Tyson Spink and Mitch Zion.

The score remained the same until early on in the third period when Colts captain Jacob Laliberte notched his 55th goal of the season.

The Raiders spoiled Karvouniaris' shutout bid as Craig Cowie scored with roughly eight minutes remaining.

The Colts currently sit in first place with a 44-9-1 record (89 points). Cornwall will be back in action tonight when they travel to Smiths Falls to take on the Bears.
