Pembroke defends home ice with Game 1 win
The Pembroke Lumber Kings jumped out to a 1-0 series lead in the CCHL finals with a 2-0 win over the Colts on Sunday.

Cornwall - Apr. 3, 2011 - If the Colts hope to beat the Lumber Kings in the CCHL finals, they'll have to win at least one game in Pembroke.

And they'll have to wait until Friday to get that chance again.

The Lumber Kings erupted for two quick second period goals en route to a 2-0 win over the Colts in Game 1 on Sunday night at the Pembroke Memorial Centre.

Jonathan Milley and Stefan Salituro scored goals one minute apart in the middle frame and the defending champion Lumber Kings never looked back.

For the Colts, the effort was there, but the rewards just didn't follow. Cornwall pressed hard in the third, and they came within a couple of inches of getting on the board after Mitch Zion hit the post twice.

Colts coach Ian MacInnis juggled his lines at the start of the third period in an attempt to kickstart a comeback, but it didn't have the desired effect.

Colts goalie Pete Karvouniaris stopped 24 shots in the losing effort, while Francis Dupuis was perfect in nets for the Kings, turning aside all 20 shots he faced.

The Colts will look to even up the series at home on Wednesday night (7:30 p.m. at the Cornwall Civic Complex).
