Colts lose game in shootout to Rangers
The Gloucester Rangers defeated the Cornwall Colts 3-2 in shootout at the Ed Lumley arena on Thursday night. It was not the way the Colts were looking to begin the year of 2012. With the shootout loss, the Colts earned a single point to give them a total of 56 on the season and a record of 26-9-2-2.

Cornwall - January 6, 2012 - The Gloucester Rangers defeated the Cornwall Colts 3-2 in shootout at the Ed Lumley arena on Thursday night. It was not the way the Colts were looking to begin the year of 2012.

Cornwall outshot Gloucester 13-6 in the first period, however the period ended with the score knotted at one apiece. Michael McMurty opened the scoring for the Rangers at 2:43. Connor Primeau tied the game for Cornwall at 14:56 of the first.

Kyle Baun, scored a shorthanded goal to record the only goal of the second period and to vault the home team to a 2-1 lead. The game would remain this was for the next fifteen minutes, until Alexandre Boivin scored with only 4:59 remaining in the match. Boivin scored a powerplay goal as Marly Qiunce was in the box with a hooking penalty.

The five minute overtime period would solve nothing, with only five shots registered. In the first round of the shootout, McMurty and Mark Rath would exchange goals. Mathieu White (Glo), Tyson Spink (Cor), Boivin (Glo) and Baun (Cor) would all miss on their penalty shots. Gloucester’s Jacob Jammes then scored the eventual game winner as Cornwall’s Michael Borkowski was unable to score in his attempt.

With the shootout loss, the Colts earned a single point to give them a total of 56 on the season and a record of 26-9-2-2. The win moved the Rangers out of the League’s basement and they now have a record of 9-30-1-1.

Matt Jenkins made 19 saves between the pipes for the home squad. The three stars were Baun (1st â€" Cor), Gunner Rivers (2nd â€" Glo) and Billy Ulrich (3rd â€" Cor). The announced attendance was 1,110. The Colts are back in action tonight as they travel to Pembroke to take on the Lumber Kings.
