Cornwall - Oct. 31, 2011 - From escalating fuel and energy prices, changing customer expectations, to tightening regulations for everything from waste to emissions, environmental sustainability is becoming a must-do for Canadian logistics companies.

Supply Chain & Logistics Association Canada (SCL) and the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) have partnered together to publish a major report about the risks and opportunities related to greening your business and the rewards leading companies have reaped by making sustainability a key business priority.

“The logistics sector has always had a very deep understanding about the need for environment stewardship,” said Bob Armstrong, President of SCL. “This report provides some powerful case studies of how companies throughout the supply chain are adopting sustainability measures.”

The report will be launched at a special meeting at the NAV CENTRE in Cornwall, Ontario on Thursday November 17.

“Our partnership with Supply Chain & Logistics Association Canada underscores RBC’s commitment to understanding the intricacies of the supply chain sector,” said Dave Cross, RBC Vice President Commercial Banking (Eastern Ontario Commercial & Agricultural Markets). “Our continued work with industry partners helps RBC maintain a high level of understanding for our supply chain clients and the business in Canada.”

The report includes case studies on several companies including Dell Computers, Puma, Chiquita and Nestle Canada. One case study outlines Walmart Canada’s efforts to build the world’s most sustainable refrigerated distribution centre in Balzac Alberta. Virginia Garbutt from Walmart Canada will speak as part of a panel discussion at the Cornwall meeting.

“We are very pleased that SCL and RBC have chosen to launch this report in Cornwall,” said Mayor Bob Kilger. “Cornwall has become an important hub for logistics activities in Central Canada, and with two new distribution centres currently under construction, the timing of this report is ideal.”

The meeting will also include presentations by Kevan Gorrie of Oxford Developments, Terry Landon of Remax Cornwall and Bob Peters of Cornwall Economic Development.

The meeting starts at 11:00 am and will run to approximately 1:30pm. People wishing to attend should contact Bob Peters of Cornwall Economic Development to reserve their spot.

Supply Chain & Logistics Canada (SCL) is a national organization devoted to growing Canada's supply chain industry. SCL is particularly concerned with two important areas:

- Development by individual members of their skills
- Recognition by top management, counterpart managers and the general public of the significance of logistics activities in business and the overall economy.

SCL conducts research and promotes career-awareness-development projects, in addition to holding an annual conference held each May, it also offers professional-development programs offered at both the national and chapter levels and publishes the quarterly Supply Chain & Logistics Journal. Association membership is open to persons in all industries, types of businesses and job functions in the supply chain process.
