Windsor - Jan. 30, 2020:
3,570 Windsor Spitfire fans were stunned, by a flurry of goals by the opposition. The Flint Firebirds, scorched the net early, to go ahead 6-0 and the Spitfires could not recover, losing 8-3 on home ice.

Coaching staff of the Spitfires were disappointed in the loss and effort put in, on Thursday night. There were many bad penalties and many breakdowns, in which the Firebirds, were quick to capitalize on.

Goaltender Xavier Medina, started for the Spitfires, giving up 5 goals on 18 shots, before being pulled by coach Letowski. Matt Tovell replaced Xavier with Kari Pirioinen, out of the lineup with an undisclosed illness. Tovell was called up from the Lakeshore Canadiens and made his OHL debut. Tovell looked a little shaky, giving up a Firebirds goal by Jack Wismer, on only the second shot he faced. Tovell settled in and made some key saves, to motivate the Spitfires who scored three straight goals, to bring them closer, closing the gap to 6-3.

Firebirds captain, Ty Dellandrea, a Dallas Stars draft pick, showed his leadership. Dellandrea showed his skills, on a penalty shot and easily scored, on Spits Goaltender, Xavier Medina. Dellandrea finished the game, with two goals and an assist and named first star of the game.

The Flint Firebirds added some veterans to their lineup, before the trade deadline, which should see them rise in the standings, of the second half of the season. The Spitfires dropped the last two meetings to the Firebirds after winning the first three games of the season against Flint.

Bright spots for Spitfires in a lopsided loss, was Tyler Angles 22nd goal of the season and Cutis Douglas scoring his 20th goal of the season.

It doesn't get any easier for the Spitfires, who travel to London to face the Knights, on Friday, January 31 at 7:30 PM at Budweiser Gardens.
