Windsor - Feb. 10, 2022:
Maggio magic leads the Windsor Spitfires to a 4-1 win in front of capacity 500 fans.

The Spitfires started strong with Tecumseh native, Matthew Maggio, notching twine :57 into the first frame. Maggio gained the blueline, deked a Saginaw defenseman and wristed a bullet top shelf, to open the scoring.

Saginaw’s Matyas Sapovaliv, was Johnny on the spot when a nice rebound was tapped in, to even the game at 1-1, 4:21 into the first period. Saginaw found themselves in penalty trouble later in the first frame, giving the Spitfires a 5 on 3. During this two-man advantage, Andrew Perrott fed a beautiful saucer pass on the stick of Maggio, to tip in his second goal of the game, which would be the game winning goal.

In the second period Alex Christopoulos, led a two on one and decided to shoot and sniped his 7th goal of the season giving the Spitfires the insurance goal.

The third period was a very defensive minded frame by the Spitfires, not allowing any momentum by the opposition. Maggio would notch the hat trick and 21st goal of the season, at the 18:27 mark of the third period, ending a magical game and a great performance. Wyatt Johnson and Andrew Perrott both had two assists in the contest, leading the Spitfires top line to victory.

Spitfires, Xavier Medina stopped 18 shots for the win. Windsor Spitfires will host the London Knights on Saturday, February 12th, 7:05 pm at the WFCU Centre.
