This win gives the Spitfires sole position of first place looking down at the rest of the Western Conference. Windsor - Mar. 23, 2022: Over 3200 fans were treated, to an old fashion hockey shootout, where the Windsor Spitfires offence prevailed on top 7-5 over Kitchener Rangers. This win gives the Spitfires sole position of first place looking down at the rest of the Western Conference. Winners of four straight games, the Spitfires are on a roll, at the perfect time of the season.

Windsor came out of the gate applying pressure and just 5 minutes into the contest, Alex Christopoulos scores his 11th goal of the season, to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Just minute and half later the Rangers responded with a goal by Adam Zidlicky to tie the game at 1-1. Just 17 seconds later Spitfires Michael Renwick fires a shot from the blueline that banks off the boards and deflects off the Rangers goaltender into the net, for a 2-1 Spitfires lead. Shots on goal were even at 10 after one period.

In the second period just 49 seconds into the frame, Spitfires Louka Henault fed a breakaway pass to Matthew Maggio, who deked and scored his 32nd goal of the season, to give the Spitfires a 3-1 lead. Later in the second the Rangers would respond with a goal from Navrin Mutter to make the score 3-2, until Spitfires Daniel D’Amico would score his 21st of the season to regain the two-goal lead at 4-2. Rangers scored at the 13:50 mark, to head into the dressing room with the Spitfires ahead 4-3.

In the third period there was no lack of goals and excitement. Michael Renwick would notch twine for his second of the game and his 9th of the season. Maggio would feed Renwick who ripped the shot past goaltender Pavel Cajan from outside the circle for a Spitfires 5-3 lead. Rangers would capitalize on sloppy play by the Spitfires and scored two consecutive goals to tie the game at 5-5. With just over 4 minutes to play in the third period, Spitfires Daniil Sobolev made an outstanding play at the blueline to keep the play onsides. Wyatt Johnston then fed Matthew Maggio who ripped a shot, to break the tie and give the Spitfires a 6-5 advantage and the game winning goal. Spits would score on an empty net goal by Daniel D’Amico to ice the game and a 7-5 Spitfires victory.

The red-hot Spitfires, will host the Saginaw Spirit on Thursday, March 24 at 7:30 pm at the WFCU Centre.
