Zumba infuses different styles of music together into a fun workout
Adele Wilson is teaching a Zumba class for Curves Circuit with Zumba Fitness, a fairly recent addition to the Curves program. “Zumba is a fitness dance class. It is latin inspired, so we use a lot of latin music. We also use a lot of current music, so it’s a mixture. It’s hip hop, it’s reggaetone, it’s salsa, it’s meringue, so it’s really about infusing different styles of music together into a half and hour to an hour long workout."

Cornwall - Jan. 22, 2012 - Adele Wilson is teaching a Zumba class for Curves Circuit with Zumba Fitness, a fairly recent addition to the Curves program. “Zumba is a fitness dance class. It is latin inspired, so we use a lot of latin music. We also use a lot of current music, so it’s a mixture. It’s hip hop, it’s reggaetone, it’s salsa, it’s meringue, so it’s really about infusing different styles of music together into a half and hour to an hour long workout. A person can lose from 500, up to 1000 calories in a one hour class.”

Adele got into Zumba after taking classes herself. “I used to just take Zumba classes. I used to just be a fan, and I took classes with Christal Huizinga and then I took some classes at the gym. The instructor there said ‘You know, you’re pretty good, you should become an instructor.’ And, really it just went from there.”

Members of the gym pay only a two dollar fee per lesson every Thursday, while those who are not already members must pay a six dollar fee. All the ladies seem to love it, as there are usually around fifteen or so women there for the class. “I know Zumba on the Circuit has been a success itself because we had maybe fifteen people tonight. It’s almost to the point where we can’t even fit in our little circle.” Says Adele while discussing the response she’s had to the class, “The ladies here just love it; they say it’s such a nice mix to add to the machines. They love the energy and the loud music and the fun dance moves.”

The classes are every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:00 pm. Even if you aren’t a member of the gym, if you attend the class, you get to test drive each machine between songs. “They’re loving it, they want me to do more than one class a week. They just can’t believe how much fun it is and how great of a workout it is.” Says Adele. “It’s a great feeling, knowing I’m helping people reach their goals.”
