Stoney Point - Aug. 19, 2013 - My morning routine is pretty consistent - wake up, start the coffee and look out at the lake. This weekend, when I looked out I spotted this Belted Kingfisher perched on our dock, looking for his breakfast. It was the first time that I have ever seen a Kingfisher.

The ROM Field Guide to Birds of Ontario states that "the Belted Kingfisher feeds primarily on small fish. To catch its prey, it may dive obliquely into the water from an overhanging perch or while hovering 20 to 40 feet above the surface."
