Wynne, Redford: A tale of two provinces
After two and a half years in Alberta, Ontario politics still fascinate me and I watch what happens closely, from afar. The recent election that gave the Liberals a majority had me thinking about how different Alberta is from my old province. Let me explain.

Calgary - June 19, 2014 - After two and a half years in Alberta, Ontario politics still fascinate me and I watch what happens closely, from afar. The recent election that gave the Liberals a majority had me thinking about how different Alberta is from my old province. Let me explain.

Ontario's debt is out of control and will rise under the Liberal government. I know, Wynne says she'll balance the budget, but if you believe that, I've got some gas plants in Mississauga and Oakville to sell you. In addition to poor fiscal management there has been eHealth, Ontario Lottery and Gaming (remember that one?), the HST, the health tax, Caledonia, pandering to unions, delisting eye exams and physio (but funding sex changes), eco fees, BIG green, rising electricity prices, fleeing businesses, ORNGE, high taxes, have not status and I could go on and on. So what happens after all these and many more transgressions? Ontario rewards the Liberals with a majority. Now on to Alberta.

In Alberta the premier ran up a $40,000 bill for airfare to and from Nelson Mandela's funeral and Albertan's ran her out of Dodge. Of course Alberta has it's own management problems (deficits, education, health care, etc.), but 40 grand was the straw that broke the premiers back. If an election were held today the PC's would be gone. Quite a difference from Ontario and quite refreshing.

I'm reminded of the initiation scene from Animal House when I think of Ontario voters.
