Unfortunately for them, their offence accomplished something rarely seen in the Canadian game...scoring all of one point, in dropping a 17-1 decision to the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday night in Mosaic Field in Regina.

Edmonton - July 9, 2012 - In a league that is typically known for it's offensive outbursts, the Edmonton Eskimos defence have managed to allow the opposition under twenty points in their first two games of the CFL season. Unfortunately for them, their offence accomplished something rarely seen in the Canadian game...scoring all of one point, in dropping a 17-1 decision to the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday night in Mosaic Field in Regina.

Running back Kory Sheets scored the games lone touchdown with a 34 yard run in the fourth quarter, while place kicker Christopher Milo chipped in with a pair of field goals. Eskimos starter Steven Jyles went10-for-19 but passed for just 91 yards on the night and gave way to veteran Kerry Joseph on two separate occasions. He didn't fair much better, picking up only 34 yards on his four of eight passing performance, which included a fourth quarter interception by Riders safety Craig Butler.

After an impressive opening half against the Toronto Argonauts in their season opener, the Eskimos offence has sputtered badly, putting up just seven points in the last game and a half. Everyone was expecting growing pains with a different starting QB at the helm in Jyles and Hugh Charles as their new feature back but so far, the results have been worse than expected.

Luckily, the Esks have been in mid season form on D, giving up only two majors over eight quarters of football. No small feat at the best of times but even more impressive once you consider how little time Edmonton's offence have actually spent on the field.

In Fred Stamps, the Eskimos have one of the premier players in the Canadian Football League but have only called on the All-Star receiver om just six plays from scrimmage...for a measly 41 yards and no touchdowns. It is always an area of concern when your best player is struggling but the fact Stamps has barely even seen the ball come his way, is rather alarming. For a club that lacks the depth the Eskimos do on the offensive side of the ball, their first priority must be finding a way to free up #2...no matter the cost.

The loss leaves Edmonton with a 1-1 mark on the year and in a third place tie with the Calgary Stampeders, one game back of Saskatchewan and the undefeated B.C. Lions. The Eskimos will look to get back to their winning ways during Week Three of action, as they host the winless Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night at Commonwealth Stadium. While the Roughriders remain in the friendly confines of Mosaic Field, as they take on the Lions in battle for first in West.
