On Saturday, the 14th, the Lancaster Club celebrated its 50th anniversary with a Birthday Bonspiel. Chef Jean Derez and his wife, Claudette, made the evening a fantastic success as all were treated to a culinary delight. Lancaster - Jan. 15, 2012 - Last week was very busy at the Lancaster Curling Club.

On Friday, January the 13th, several teams participated in the Men’s Senior Bonspiel, despite the inclement weather.

The Draw winners included teams from Maxville, Pointe Claire and Cornwall. The men enjoyed a delicious roast pork luncheon.

Herb Yellenick, who organized the event, wishes to thank the many volunteers who helped make the event a success.

Chef Jean Derez and his wife, Claudette, made the evening a fantastic success as all were treated to a culinary delight.

The meal was a delight to see, so beautifully presented, and tasted so delicious, that the raves were heard across the club.

A huge thank you to Jean and his wife for all their efforts.

Gail Wells, who organized the event, wishes to also thank the many other volunteers who contributed to the event. Particular thanks to her official assistants who helped setup, serve and cleanup. These include, Graham Wells, Gwen and Lyn Blanchard, Maureen Stephens, Elaine Pye and Andre Flaro. Also special thanks to Elizabeth Desjardins who looked after the match setup and recorded all the results.

It was a truly memorable evening. Three of the original members from 1962 were present. One of the three, Beth Shoniker, blew out the candles on the birthday cake. Mac and Carol Edwards, were also present and Carol had everyone laughing as she mentioned some of the fun events and happenings at the club over the years. Ian Macintosh, who was a junior curler, in 1962, also relayed some of his memories.

Thank you all for your interest in the Lancaster club.
