London - July 28, 2012 - The Canadian Olympic Committee hosted leaders of the British Olympic Association, London 2012 Organizing Committee and International Olympic Committee (LOCOG) at a lunch event at Canada Olympic House today.

After a very successful opening ceremony to officially welcome the world to the start of the 2012 Summer Olympics, key organizing figures of the London Games were able to switch roles for an afternoon and be welcomed by Canadian Olympic Committee President Marcel Aubut at Canada Olympic House.

“We are honoured to welcome the host organizing committee and national olympic committee under our roof just one day after the opening ceremony,” said Aubut. “Considering that Canada was the world’s last Olympic host, it is also a beautiful continuity of the Olympic spirit that touches us all.”

“Any Olympian remembers the electricity and excitement in the air when the Games begin,” said two-time Olympic medallist and International Olympic Committee member Beckie Scott. “It is wonderful to see all that LOCOG is doing to make this a special and impactful Games for the athletes, the spectators, and all those watching at home.”

Among those in attendance were Colin Moynihan, Chairman of the British Olympic Association and Michaëlle Jean, Grand Témoin de la Francophonie for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Guests were also treated with a special performance by multi-platinum selling artists The Canadian Tenors.

Resting in the heart of Trafalgar square, Canada Olympic House is a place for the family and friends of Canadian athletes to gather during Games. It was officially opened on July 27th on the eve of the start of the Games during a ribbon-cutting ceremony outside the historic building.
