London - August 7, 2012 - Following the Custio Clayton vs Fred Evans bout on the evening of Aug. 07, Boxing Canada filed a protest with AIBA.

The Canadian federation claimed that Evans should have been given a penalty for a third caution and Clayton be awarded two points. Rule 12.2.1 states a fighter should be given a warning penalty when he is cautioned three times for the same foul.

The appeal was rejected very early Wednesday morning, local time.

"We are very disappointed in this decision, Custio clearly won the fight in our opinion and this is not a good day for Olympic boxing," said Boxing Canada High Performance Director Daniel Trepanier. "However, Custio is a very talented boxer and he should be proud of his performance tonight, and in his two earlier fights, in this his first Olympic Games.”

Clayton is now eliminated from the tournament.

“He had the crowd behind him, but after the crowd got out of the way in the second and third I thought I had him. I thought I pulled out the victory, but I didn’t get it. I did Canada proud and I did Nova Scotia proud. I take my hat off to (Freddie Evans). He won the fight and I wish him the best."
