Mountain - Apr. 26, 2011 - Residents will have a chance to lace up their shoes for a good cause on June 11.

The House of Lazarus will be hosting the eighth annual 7K/14K Walk/Run for Food with a goal of raising $20,000 and 1,000 food items.

The event is a major fundraiser for the House of Lazarus, an ecumenical, registered charity and non-profit organization which functions as a food bank and outreach mission. The centre's food bank serves a client base of approximately 300 families in North and South Dundas and Leeds/Grenville counties.

Based in Mountain, the House of Lazarus offers a number of other services, including client advocacy, pastoral care, crisis intervention, client referrals, suicide intervention and nutrition and budgeting support.

Registration for the 14K Run will take place at 7:30 a.m. at the House of Lazarus (2245 Simms Street) in Mountain, while registration for the 7K Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the South Mountain Fair Grounds.

Along with the walk and run, the fundraiser will also feature a performance by "the Singing Policeman," Dominic D'Arcy.

Pledge forms can be found at the House of Lazarus website or by contacting the organization at 613-989-3830.
