South Stormont mayor challenges residents to get prepared
South Stormont Mayor Bryan McGillis is encouraging residents to get prepared by taking the Emergency Preparedness Challenge.

Long Sault - May. 4, 2011 - South Stormont Mayor Bryan McGillis is encouraging residents to get prepared by taking the Emergency Preparedness Challenge.

The challenge is a provincial intiative that highlights the need for Ontarians to be prepared for an emergency. The challenge runs throughout the month of May and coincides with Emergency Preparedness Week from May 1 to 7.

"I am very excited that our community is participating in this great initiative," McGillis said in a press release.

Individiuals can take part in the challenge by visiting the Emergency Preparedness Challenge website or the South Stormont township website.

The challenge will have three categories of entry - children, youth and adults - and will consist of answering five age-appropriate multiple-choice questions.

"Emergency preparedness is very important," said Betty de Haan, community emergency management coordinator with South Stormont.

"Our eventual goal is to ensure that every household in South Stormont is prepared with a 72 hour emergency survival kit and a household emergency plan."
