Upper Canada school board Seeking Nominations for its Parent Involvement Committee
The Upper Canada District School Board is seeking nominations to fill 8 vacancies on its Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) for a one- or two-year term.

Cornwall - Sep. 24, 2011 - The Upper Canada District School Board is seeking nominations to fill 8 vacancies on its Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) for a one- or two-year term.

This is an opportunity for parents/guardians to support, encourage and enhance parent engagement at the board level to improve student achievement and well-being.

Nominations will be accepted until Thursday, October 13, 2011, at 4 pm.

Vacancies exist in the following areas:

- Almonte/Carleton Place
- Athens/Gananoque/Rideau
- Brockville/South Grenville
- North/South Dundas
- CharLan/Glengarry/Rothwell-Osnabruck/Tagwi
- North Grenville
- Cornwall
- First Nations

The PIC is also calling for applications/nominations for one Community Member from within our geographic board who will serve for a one-year term, to a maximum of 3 consecutive terms.

What is the role of the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC)?
The PIC's primary role is to support, encourage and enhance parent engagement at the board level to improve student achievement and well-being. This purpose is achieved primarily by providing advice on parent engagement to the board, communicating with and supporting School Councils, and undertaking activities to help parents support their children's learning at home and at school. Regular PIC meetings are held 4 times per school year in rotating locations. Additional meetings may be called as required. Meetings begin at 5:30 pm, with a formal agenda being provided well in advance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Parents/Guardians quality to be appointed to the PIC if they have children attending an Upper Canada District School Board school.

Any parent or guardian who is employed by the Board must inform the committee of their employment.

Experience as an active member of a School Community Advisory Council who is able to represent the views of a wide variety of parents is desirable, but not mandatory.

The Parent Involvement Committee strives to maintain a balance of parents representing elementary and secondary parents.

A Community Member must not be a member of the UCDSB Board of Trustees, nor can he/she be an employee of the board.

** Applications/nominations must include the following information:
1. Position applied/nominated for, i.e. Parent/Guardian Member, or Community Member.
2. For a Parent/Guardian Member position: geographic area and length of term (1 or 2 years).
3. Name, address, phone number (e-mail address if applicable) of the applicant/nominee.
4. A brief explanation of the reason for the application/nomination, i.e. why do you wish to serve on the PIC?
5. Applicant/Nominee's qualifications (e.g. parent of child at 'ABC' school) for the position.
