The coming battle

Calgary - March 22, 2013 - As I wake up to another beautiful Calgary morning my thoughts turn to an issue and an upcoming battle that should concern every logical Canadian. Everyday more articles are appearing online trying to predict what President Barack Obama will do when it comes to the Keystone XL pipeline. Will he or won't he okay the essential link to get Canada's oil from Alberta to the southern United States? I'm beginning to think a little bit of both. Obama may give his thumbs up to KXL, but at the same time he'll compel federal agencies in the US to consider global warming when approving major projects. An article on the Bloomberg Business Week website explains it all quite clearly. Basically Keystone might be approved, but anyone objecting to the pipeline could hold up its construction for years by challenging it in court. In other words, no pipeline and Alberta's landlocked oil remains landlocked. Obama wins both ways. Canada loses. But there's a bigger question. Why is Keystone an issue at all?

Canada and the United States are criss-crossed with pipelines and Keystone XL will be the most advanced and safest pipeline ever conceived. The alternative is to ship the oil by train, which is far more dangerous as the oil drip, drip, drips all the way across North America. Overturned rail cars are also prone to spilling crude oil. Even the route of Keystone XL was changed to accommodate environmentalists and the president. So why all the hype and concern? Oh, that's right, the planet will cease to exist if the pipeline goes through. It's because of global warming. Or is that what we're calling it today?

Over the years global warming has morphed into a number of things since science failed to properly predict our imminent destruction. When the planet didn't warm we got ’climate change’. Then people caught on that the climate always changes and the doomsayers rebranded it ’climate disruption’. Now any storm, rainfall, drought, tornado, heatwave, deep freeze, lack of snow or snowfall can be blamed on human beings. It really is quite convenient. The theory that man has caused the Earth to warm fell apart, so just change the theory.

For the true believers in the religion of global warming you are probably disgusted with me right now and about to toss your iPad across the room. After all if we listen to the High Priest of global warming Al Gore and his trusted Alter Boy David Suzuki, they say we're doomed. But something funny happened on the way to Armageddon. None of the doom and gloom predictions came true.

Remember the poor polar bear perched precariously on a melting slab of ice? Well, besides jumping off and swimming twenty feet to try to devour the photographer, that bear and his brethren are doing just fine. We know polar bear populations are thriving in Canada's north and no amount of enviro propaganda or Coca Cola marketing campaigns can change it. Now that that little lie has been exposed, scientist have created another theory that will be harder to prove or disprove. Now global 'whateveryoucallit’ will cause the bears to turn brown. See how the bait and switch works?

Next up is the argument of a warming planet. Sorry about that, but we know we haven't had any warming in 15 years. This despite all the doom and gloom predictions by the so called consensus and climate change industry. Oh and about that consensus... hundreds, if not thousands of reputable scientists disagree with the hype.

Up next the melting ice in Canada's Arctic? Well, sorry to throw recyclables into your trash bin, but sea ice extent is actually expanding and getting back to pre-global warming scare levels. I would suggest you save your money and resist running out to buy your family water wings.

Finally we have Al Gore's whopper. What about the increase in hurricanes? Sorry again, but that little nugget has also been blown all to hell. There has not been a category 3 or higher hurricane making landfall in the United States in almost 8 years. The longest streak since the 1860's. Some advice for good ole Al... you might want to re-think the cover of your movie when it is eventually moved from the documentary section on Netflix into science fiction.

Even after pointing out these inconvenient truths about our climate we still have people who think we need to “solve” this non-problem? If you listen to Kool-Aid drinking politicians and the climate industry we have to tax everyone to change the weather? To the big government lefty's and anti-progress environmentalists it's the only answer. Quite frankly, it's so absurd it's hard to believe anyone is stupid enough to buy it, but when you worship the great God Gaia and his disciples you'll buy anything. Unfortunately the most dangerous man on Earth who buys this stupidity is Barack Obama. Obama may push a carbon tax right down America's throat whether they want it or not. He has said he'll act unilaterally on issues he can't get passed through Congress and taxing carbon is probably at the top of his list. That's why Canadians need to take notice and why Keystone XL is but a small part in the overall picture.

The Harper government has said it will tie its global warming/climate change/climate disruption legislation into what the United States does. Canadians need to be ready for the battle to come. Harper was right when he said the carbon tax is a tax on everything. If you think industry and business will absorb the extra cost of this tax without passing it along to you I've got some oceanfront property in Red Deer to sell you. As a Canadian do you want Barack Obama making disastrous decisions on your behalf? I certainly don't, but the well organized climate disruption lobby and totally brainwashed climate religionists do and we need to be prepared. This is a battle that can't be lost and we have to let our politicians know it. We also need to stop talking the talk of the hustlers and denounce claims about greenhouse gas emissions, carbon capture and the evils of CO2. It only legitimizes a false premise. We need to win this battle now. Our future depends on it whether Keystone XL actually starts pumping oil or not.
