Cornwall - Jan. 30, 2011 - Each year, the Alzheimer Society of Canada hosts over 55 walks across Ontario. Local supporters of the cause had their turn this weekend as the Cornwall and District Walk was held at the Cornwall Square on Sunday morning.

The Cornwall Walk had over 150 participants and raised over $20,000 towards the cause. Local singer and songwriter Graham Greer was on hand to entertain the crowd.

So far, the Alzheimer societies across Ontario have been able to raise over $1.7 million to support local programs and services. Every dollar raised helps provide counseling, education and information to people living with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers.

With an estimated 185,000 Ontarians living with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia, the Manulife Walk For Memories plays a critical role in supporting individuals and their families facing this disease. One in 11 Canadians over the age of 65 suffers from dementia.
