New exhibit for Black History Month on display at library

A temporary photo exhibit is now on display at the Cornwall Public Library in recognition of Black History Month.

Cornwall - Feb. 11, 2011 - February is Black History Month in Canada, and the Cornwall Public Library and Centre culturel de Cornwall have partnered to help recognize the occasion.

Over the next few days, the two organizations will be hosting a bilingual picture exhibit that tells the stories of successive migrations to Canada by enslaved African Americans.

From now until mid-day Monday, residents can view the exhibit in the library's entrance hallway. On Tuesday, the exhibit will move to the Centre culture, which is located in the former St. Croix elementary school on Anthony Street.

Officials said the exhibit provides an opportunity for Canadians to gain a better understanding of the important role the black community has played in Canada's history.
