Cornwall - Mar. 18, 2011 - A recent poll published by Nanos research, shows that Tim Hudak’s Ontario Provincial Party is ahead in the polls by 9% over Dalton McGuinty’s Liberals. In mid-February, Nanos reported that the PC party was up by 9%.

Currently, Nanos Research has the Progressive Conservatives at 44%, followed by the Liberals at 35%, the NDP at 16% and Green Party at 4%. From the last survey the PC Party is up 1%, Liberals down 4%, NDP up 3% and the Greens are down 1%.

Hudak is still comfortably ahead of McGuinty on the best Premier measure by over 5 points. Ontarians were more likely to cite healthcare (31%) rather than jobs/the economy (15%) as the most important provincial issue of concern.

In the riding of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, Winchester businessman David Guy and South Glengarry Mayor Jim McDonell have announced their intentions to seek the PC Nomination on April 9, 2011.

On the Liberal side, former Cornwall Councillor Mark MacDonald, retired St. Lawrence College Director Pat Finucan and community activist Denis Sabourin have announced their intention to seek the Liberal Nomination.

At this point, there are no announced candidates for the other parties. Ontarians go to the polls on Thursday October 6, 2011
