Local libraries receive provincial funding
Local libraries are receiving provincial funding to help build their collection and programs to strengthen community services.

Cornwall - Apr. 18, 2011 - Libraries in Cornwall and S, D and G are getting a financial boost from the provincial government.

The Cornwall Public Library, Mohawks of Akwesasne First Nation Library and the S, D and G Library system are receiving provincial funding to help build their collection and programs to strengthen community services.

"This provincial support will mean that residents in Cornwall will have more access to information and resources that will foster knowledge and new ideas," said local MPP Jim Brownell in a news release announcing the funding.

The Cornwall Public Library will receive a one-time grant of $6,846 on top of their annual Public Library Operating Grant (PLOG), while the S, D and G Library System will receive $11,167 and the Mohawks of Akwesasne First Nation Library will get $2,044.

Ontario is home to 320 public library systems, including large, small, rural, remote, Francophone and First Nations libraries, with over 1,100 locations.
