Cornwall - Jun. 24, 2011 - It’s time to prepare our community for the arrival of the Communities in Bloom Judges! Cornwall is once again participating in the Communities in Bloom Provincial edition, and the judges will be visiting Cornwall from July 25th to the 27th.

Throughout the spring, City staff and members of the community have been hard at work with tree planting initiatives, a bark and compost day, a litter pick up and other beautification efforts. Garden centres and landscape contractors and designers have been busy helping homeowners and businesses to beautify their properties. Cornwall is now in full bloom!

The Cornwall - A Community in Bloom Steering Committee is ramping up efforts within the community by encouraging citizens to make an extra effort. This can include picking up litter, planting a few extra flowers, hosting a neighbourhood competition for the best yard or numerous other “green” initiatives.

“As we prepare for the judges’ visit, we need the help of every business and resident to ensure we retain our five-bloom rating,” said Gaye Adams, Co-chair of the Cornwall - A Community in Bloom Steering Committee.

The judges’ visit will include the evaluation of all community efforts in the following categories: tidiness, environmental awareness, cultural and heritage conservation, landscaped areas, turf and ground cover, floral displays, tree and urban forest management and community involvement.

The Communities in Bloom judges that will be visiting Cornwall this year are Angela Vieth and Charlie Dobbin. Ms. Vieth is a City Councillor in Waterloo and a former chair of the Waterloo Communities in Bloom committee. Ms. Dobbin is a well-known horticulturist and landscape designer who co-hosted the HGTV show ‘One Garden Two Looks,’ among other things.
