Regional Task Force thwarts human smuggling attempt
On July 6th, 2011, members of the Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) arrested four (4) individuals allegedly in the process of transporting three (3) foreign nationals onto Cornwall Island (Akwesasne Mohawk Territory) to then be smuggled into the United States.

Cornwall - Jul. 8, 2011 - On July 6th, 2011, members of the Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF), assisted by members of Kingston RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Cornwall Integrated Criminal Intelligence Section (ICIS), arrested four (4) individuals allegedly in the process of transporting three (3) foreign nationals onto Cornwall Island (Akwesasne Mohawk Territory) to then be smuggled into the United States. It is alleged that the three (3) foreign nationals were transported from the Toronto area to Cornwall for this purpose.

Two of the alleged human smugglers are from the Toronto area, whereas one (1) is from Cornwall and another from Akwesasne, Ontario.

Admissibility hearings for the involved foreign nationals are currently underway by CBSA officials. Two of the foreign nationals are from the Slovakia Republic, while another is from Poland.

Conspiracy charges are forthcoming against all four human smugglers pending further investigation.

The CRTF continues to address the complaints of suspicious activity observed by local residents. If anyone notices suspicious activity, they are urged to please contact the CRTF at 613-937-2800 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The CRTF is a joint forces partnership that includes the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada Border Services Agency, Ontario Provincial Police, Ontario Ministry of Revenue and Cornwall Community Police Service.
