Cornwall - Aug. 2, 2011 - The popular Team Cornwall, Mayor and Council Golf Fun Day will be held on Wednesday, September 14th at Summerheights Golf Links.

“This tournament has really grown to become one of the premiere networking events of the year,” said Gilles Latour, Chair of Team Cornwall. “The Mayor and Councillors are great partners and it is always great to get our team members out for a few fun hours on the links.”

When planning your foursome for this event, we strongly encourage you to include at least one out-of-town golfer on your team. This would be a great way to introduce your guest(s) to our community and allow them the opportunity to network with many local leaders.

“The tournament offers a great opportunity for Team Cornwall members to showcase our community,” said Mayor Bob Kilger. “Over the past few years we’ve seen a lot of new investment in Cornwall, and sometimes the best way to show people what is happening here is to invite them down personally.”

The proceeds of the tournament will go towards offsetting the costs of Team Cornwall’s ambassadorial efforts. The not-for-profit organization hosts a number of events throughout the year and maintains a popular website. In addition, Team Members travel the world to promote Cornwall, at their own cost.

The tournament has been a sell-out for the past five years, attracting over 150 golfers each year to a day filled with sport, fun and networking. It is a premier event where the scores don’t really matter.

Scotiabank is returning as the tournament’s major supporter. “We believe in the objectives of Team Cornwall and are happy to help,” said Diane Dupuis, Manager of Customer Services at Scotiabank’s Brookdale Avenue branch. A variety of other local companies and organizations also support and sponsor the Tournament.

The tournament will feature a continental breakfast at 9 am followed by a Four Person Best Ball Scramble format with a shotgun start at 10:00 am, and ending with a late afternoon buffet around 4 pm. Registration fees are $125 per golfer, which includes breakfast, 18 holes, cart, lunch and a buffet meal. Registration forms can be found on the City of Cornwall and Team Cornwall websites.

Team Cornwall is a unique organization that exists to spread the word about Cornwall’s positive attributes as a city in which to live and do business. Team Members use their own networks to deliver timely information about the community and its growing development opportunities, and in doing so, act as ambassadors for the City’s economic development effort.
