Brockville - Aug. 18, 2011 - Brad Marsh, a fan favourite from his NHL playing days as a defenceman with the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs, will be the special guest for the 25th annual Afternoon In the Islands.

The popular fundraiser for the Leeds-Grenville PC Association celebrates its silver anniversary this year and is taking place Saturday, August 20, at the Glen House Resort on the 1000 Islands Parkway.

Marsh was a first-round draft choice of the Atlanta Flames in 1978 and went on to play 1,086 games in the National Hockey League with Atlanta, Calgary, Philadelphia, Toronto, Detroit and Ottawa.

One of the league’s stalwart blueliners during his career, Marsh was notably one of the last players in the NHL to play without a helmet. He also memorably scored a goal in his only All-Star Game appearance in 1993.

Media are welcome to attend Saturday’s event and are advised to arrive at 4:15 p.m. as the formal ceremonies will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m.
