Cornwall - Oct. 1, 2011 - It appears that the Ontario Provinicial Election is too close to call at this point. A new poll released yesterday, shows that both Dalton McGuinty Liberals and the Tim Hudak Conservatives are in a virtual tie.

The latest Globe/CTV/CP24 Nanos Ontario election poll conducted in the two days following the leaders' debate, “shows the election is currently in a state of gridlock. The Liberals and Conservatives are within the margin of error of each other (37.7% and 34.4% respectively) while the NDP are at 25.5% followed by the Green Party at 2.0% among decided voters. Twelve percent of likely Ontario voters were undecided at the time of the poll.”

39.5% of Ontarians were undecided as to who won the debate based on what they had seen or heard about it followed by another 25.4% who said there was no winner. McGuinty, Horwath and Hudak were in a similar range (14.0%, 11.5% and 9.5%).

The research suggests that the debate did not result in any breakaway movement for any of the three major parties and that there was no winner in the opinion of likely voters.

In Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, it also appears to be a close race between Jim McDonell (PC), Mark MacDonald (LIB), and Elaine MacDonald (NDP). Ontarians go to the polls on Thursday October 6th, 2011.
