Cornwall - Nov. 7, 2011 - Central Public School hosted its Spec Ops Qualification Day on October 21, an event that tested students’ fitness levels so that they could advance to a new level of school leadership.

Through Froglogic, an active living, fitness and character-building program based on US Navy SEAL concepts, Principal Kieran Kennedy has created a number of leadership opportunities for students of all ages around the school. This year, students have the opportunity to be a part of a number of teams including the Rangers, JTF2, Bravo, Alpha and Delta groups.

On October 21, selected students in grades 3-6 took their training to the next level by formally committing to joining Centrals’ Spec Ops student leadership program. This program is for students who aim to live with character and focus on healthy living. The group’s purpose is to encourage other students to earn their way onto the team.

“I think it’s really important to have an entity in your school that challenges other students and gives them opportunities for leadership outside of the classroom walls,” Kennedy said.

The outcome of the day was hugely successful with over 130 students qualifying in the five divisions of Spec Ops. In addition, the vast majority of these children will take on a “Thrive” placement around the school which is a structured, cooperative education placement that only students in the school’s Spec Ops program commit to.
