Cornwall Transit providing free shuttle for National Child Day
Cornwall Transit will be offering a shuttle service on Sunday, November 20 to provide free rides to the various National Child Day activities taking place throughout the city.

Cornwall - November 18, 2011 - Cornwall Transit will be offering a shuttle service on Sunday, November 20 to provide free rides to the various National Child Day activities taking place throughout the city.

Now in its 17th year, National Child Day offers a full day of free activities for children of all ages. It is celebrated on November 20th each year to mark the occasion when Canada adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The free shuttle will operate from 11:05 am to 8:45 pm, with continuous stops at the various venues hosting National Child Day events. It will run along many of the City's main traffic arteries, picking up passengers at regular bus stops along the scheduled route. The full shuttle schedule and an accompanying route map can be found on the Cornwall Transit section of the City website (www.Cornwall.ca).

"We're pleased to once again be a part of the National Child Day celebration in Cornwall," said Len Tapp, Transit Division Manager. "I encourage all residents to get on the bus and take part in the festivities."

A number of City facilities will play host to free activities on National Child Day, including:

- Free skating at the Benson Centre from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
- A magician performance at the Cornwall Public Library from 3pm to 3:30 pm.
- Free swimming at the Aquatic Centre from 6:30 pm to 8 pm.

"National Child Day offers a great opportunity for families to spend some quality time together," said Lucie Hart, Coordinator of the National Child Day celebration. "It also gives families a chance to discover all of the great activities and amenities that are available here in Cornwall."

Other scheduled events include face painting and various activities at the Ontario Early Years Centre (550 Ninth Street East) from 9:30 am to 12 pm, rock climbing and other activities at the Cornwall Armoury (505 Fourth Street East) from 1 pm to 4 pm, the showing of the movie Spy Kids 4 at the Port Theatre (132 Montreal Road) beginning at 1:30 pm and bowling at Olympia Bowl (71 Ninth Street West) from 4 pm to 6 pm.

In addition to the free activities, children can enjoy special days at participating restaurants such as A & W, Dairy Queen, Domino's, Harvey's and Pizza Hut.
