Embrun - November 21, 2011 - Federal MP Pierre Lemieux is pleased to announce, on behalf of Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore, a $5,700 grant for the Association des loisirs communautaires d’Embrun Inc., a non-profit organization.

“Once again, I am very proud to announce funding from our Conservative government that will support local talent in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell,” said Mr. Lemieux.

This year’s funding will assist the Association in running the 32nd edition of the Carnaval d’Embrun. The Carnival includes a variety of music and theatrical performances by dozens of local artists.

“The Embrun Carnival is of vital importance to the community; residents look forward to the event. During the week-long festivities, numerous activities, including tournaments and shows, are expected to attract both children and adults, be they anglophone or francophone,” said Sophie Bourbonnais, a member of the Association des loisirs communautaires d’Embrun executive.

Event organizers expect the 11-day festival will take 1,500 hours of volunteer work to prepare and execute, and they hope to draw 700 festival-goers.

“The Embrun Carnival is a community event from the planning stages down the to the last performance,” concluded Mr. Lemieux. “Our government continues to provide important funding for events like these which benefit local artists and strengthen pride in regional traditions and culture.”
