Todd Lalonde elected Vice-Chair at Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario Annual Meeting
CDSBEO Vice-Chair, Todd Lalonde, Board Chair, Brent Laton, and Director of Education, Wm. J. Gartland. Mr. Brent Laton, Trustee for Grenville County and Elizabethtown-Kitley Township, has been acclaimed to the position of Chair for the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario.

Kemptville - December 6, 2011 - Mr. Brent Laton, Trustee for Grenville County and Elizabethtown-Kitley Township, has been acclaimed to the position of Chair for the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario. It will be the first term as Chair for Mr. Laton, who is entering his 9th year as a Catholic School Trustee. Mr. Laton served the Board as Vice-Chair during the last term.

Mr. Laton told Trustees, “I would like to thank my fellow Trustees for the privilege of serving as your Chair. We are here for the sole purpose to advocate for Catholic education in Ontario. I feel our role as Trustee is significant to the success of the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario. We will continue to work together and be strong advocates and stewards of Catholic education in Ontario.”

Mr. Laton succeeds Mr. Ron Eamer, Trustee for the City of Cornwall and Glengarry County. Mr. Eamer had served 10 consecutive terms as Chair.

The Board of Trustees also elected Mr. Todd Lalonde, Trustee for the City of Cornwall and Glengarry County, to the position of Vice-Chair. Mr. Lalonde is entering his 6th year as a Catholic School Trustee. “To my fellow Trustees, and Senior Administration, I look forward to working with you in my new role. I am grateful to my fellow Trustees for giving me the opportunity to do so. It is a joy to serve our school system, and to be a part of its success, and the success of our students.”

Director of Education, Wm. J. Gartland, congratulated Mr. Laton and Mr. Lalonde. "The Annual meeting is a wonderful celebration of our Catholic faith, and an opportunity to renew our dedication to Catholic education. I know that both Mr. Laton and Mr. Lalonde share that dedication and it will be a pleasure to work with them as they assume their new roles."

The Board welcomed Father John Whyte, Chaplain at St. Francis Xavier CHS in Hammond who presided at the Mass to begin the evening. Father Whyte offered his thanks to Trustees and Senior Administration for the work they do to preserve and protect their Catholic faith and Catholic education. Father Whyte also blessed all CDSBEO Trustees.

The 2010-2014 CDSBEO Board of Trustees are:

Mr. Ron Eamer - Trustee, City of Cornwall and Glengarry County
Mrs. Nancy Kirby - Trustee, Lanark County
Mr. Todd Lalonde - Trustee, City of Cornwall and Glengarry County
Mr. Brent Laton - Trustee, Grenville County and Elizabethtown-Kitley Township
Mr. Robin Reil, - Trustee, City of Brockville, Town of Smiths Falls, and Leeds County
Mrs. Karen McAllister - Trustee, Dundas and Stormont Counties
Mrs. Sue Wilson - Trustee, Prescott and Russell Counties
Ms. Sarah Norton - Catholic Student Trustee, 2011-2012

Director of Education Presents Annual Report
Director Gartland presented his annual report to the Board of Trustees at the meeting. “It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to present the Director’s Annual Report for 2011. It provides an opportunity for us to pause and reflect on the good work the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario has been involved in over the last year. It is a chance to review and celebrate our many accomplishments,” said Director Gartland.

Director Gartland's report highlighted the good things that have taken place over the past year in our Catholic school system. “Our Board continues to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to our strategic plan, and its three goals: Achieving Literacy for All, Living our Catholic Faith, and Making Resources Matter. As a result, I am pleased to report that our students continue to excel in many areas - faith, academics, arts, and athletics - we should be so very proud of what they have accomplished; they truly are an inspiration to each and every one of us."

Director Gartland congratulated every staff member for making the past school year one of growth and success.
