Cornwall - December 18, 2011 - Guy Lauzon, Member of Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry is pleased with what the Government accomplished over the fall session.

This session the Conservative Government introduced the Fair Representation Act, the Ending The Long Gun Registry Act, The Marketing Freedom for Grain Farmers Act, The Safe Streets and Communities Act and passed legislation to eliminate the per vote subsidies.

“On May 2, 2011, Canadians elected a strong, stable, national, majority Conservative Government on commitments I am happy to report we accomplished this fall session”, said Lauzon, “Our Government took action to protect taxpayers, brought Canada closer to fair representation, took action to protect families and communities, and stood up for farmers and hunters.”

The Conservative Government has taken action to protect taxpayers by eliminating the per vote subsidy by fifty cents per year over four years. This will ensure Canadian taxpayer’s hard earned money is not funding political party’s. In response to Canadians living in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta being significantly underrepresented in the House of Commons, our Government introduced the Fair Representation Act. This Act will bring Canada closer to representation by adding 15 additional seats. Our Government also stood up for farmers, hunters and sports shooters this session by introducing legislation to scrap the wasteful and ineffective long gun registry. Further, our Government gave Canadian wheat and barley farmers the freedom to market their grain as they choose by introducing The Marketing Freedom for Grain Farmers Act. Our Government also introduced the Safe Streets and Communities Act which will target crime, terrorism and provide support and protection to victims of crime.

“First and foremost, our Government has made the economy our number one priority this session by creating 600,000 new jobs since July 2009 through Canada’s Economic Action Plan,” said Lauzon, “acting on a strong mandate from Canadian voters, we are working to deliver on our commitments.”

In 2012 our Government will stay the course, and implement the Next Phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan to protect jobs and economic growth. As a part of this plan we are taking prudent, responsible action to review spending and bring the budget back into balance over the medium term.
