Cornwall Alzheimer Society Walk for Memories raises over $17,500
Each year, the Alzheimer Society of Canada hosts over 55 walks across Ontario. Local supporters of the cause had their turn this weekend as the Cornwall and District Walk was held at Cornwall Square on Sunday morning. The Cornwall Walk had over 140 participants and raised over $17,500 towards the cause.

Cornwall - January 29, 2012 - Each year, the Alzheimer Society of Canada hosts over 55 walks across Ontario. Local supporters of the cause had their turn this weekend as the Cornwall and District Walk was held at Cornwall Square on Sunday morning. The Alexandria Walk is scheduled for this afternoon and a Rockland walk will take place in the first week of February.

The Cornwall Walk had over 140 participants and raised over $17,500 towards the cause. Karaoke was provided by M&C Entertainment. Corey Disotell, Alison Hudson, Chris Blanchette, Graham Greer, Debbie DeWit, Mike Plafery, Elizabeth O’Connor and Carrigan Davis were the entertainers for the event.

The Walk had a Chinese theme this year, with decorations with donated by the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa. Sherry Davis is the Fund Development and Volunteer Co-ordinator for the event. She estimates that approximately 20 staff and volunteers were on hand to make the event a success. Today’s walk was hosted by Logan from Variety 104.5.

So far, the Alzheimer societies across Ontario have been able to raise over $1.7 million to support local programs and services. Every dollar raised helps provide counselling, education and information to people living with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers.

With an estimated 185,000 Ontarians living with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia, the Alzheimer Society Walk For Memories plays a critical role in supporting individuals and their families facing this disease. One in 11 Canadians over the age of 65 suffers from dementia.

The Alzheimer Society Walk for Memories is the largest fundraising event in the province dedicated to increasing awareness and raising funds for vital programs and services that support people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
