Cornwall - February 9, 2012 - Corus Radio Cornwall, Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocer, Delaney Bus Lines Ltd. and in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Cornwall/SDG are proud to support the annual anti-bullying campaign Pink Shirt Day - Bullying Stops Here! Cornwall and surrounding area residents are encouraged to wear something pink on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 to symbolize that the community will not tolerate bullying anywhere.

“Corus Radio Cornwall is proud to work with our community partners to raise awareness and address the issue of bullying that occurs in our schools, workplaces, homes and online,” said JJ Johnston, General Manager, Corus Radio Ontario East. “Pink Shirt Day is an important initiative and through our partnership with local businesses and the support of our dedicated listeners, together, we can stand up to bullying.”

“Pink Shirt Day is where communities across Canada collectively stand together and acknowledge that bullying happens daily for many youth and we need to address this,” said Jacquie Richards, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Cornwall. “The powerful message behind Pink Shirt Day is that we, as a community, must come together and openly talk about the effects of bullying and work together towards the solution that ‘Bullying Stops Here’. Here at the Boys & Girls Club we were proud to introduce this national campaign to our area last year and help create awareness because we see the impact of bullying first hand”.

What began as a protest against a bullying incident at a Nova Scotia high school, has triggered a national movement with the last Wednesday of February being marked as Anti-Bullying day in Canada. On this day, participants are asked to wear pink to symbolize a stand against bullying.

Official Pink Shirt Day shirts are available for purchase at Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocer on 31 9th Street East in Cornwall and Scotiabank at 960 Brookdale Avenue North in Cornwall. T-shirts are $10 each with proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs anti-bullying programs. For more information, visit Variety104.com, Cjssfm.com or TheCornwallDaily.com.
