Owl City debuts at top spot with The Midsummer Station

Electro-pop whiz kid Owl City has debuted at #1 on Canada’s Neilsen Soundscan Top 200 Chart with his third studio album, The Midsummer Station. The #1 debut goes hand-in-hand with the huge success of “Good Time”, Owl City’s current platinum-selling single.

Toronto - August 29, 2012 - Electro-pop whiz kid Owl City has debuted at #1 on Canada’s Neilsen Soundscan Top 200 Chart with his third studio album, The Midsummer Station (Island Def Jam/Universal Music Canada). The #1 debut goes hand-in-hand with the huge success of “Good Time”, Owl City’s current platinum-selling single featuring Canadian break-out superstar Carly Rae Jepsen.

Going into this record, Owl City’s Adam Young agreed to step out of his comfort zone and for the first time collaborate with some of the most talented writers and producers including: Stargate, Sam Hollander and Matt Thiessen. “On this album I wanted to write songs that felt a bit more accessible in a way that would allow listeners to enjoy the songs for what they are rather than parse the meaning of every little phrase or metaphor. I wanted to paint with bigger, broader brush-strokes so people might better understand and relate to the kinds of things I’m singing about,” says Young.

The Midsummer Station is Owl City’s follow-up to All Things Bright and Beautiful and his platinum-selling debut Ocean Eyes that featured the #1 international smash hit “Fireflies”which gained triple-platinum status in Canada.
