Murray is Solid As Dea Breaks The OT, Pens Win 2-1 Over Phantoms

Wilkes-Barre Scranton - October 29, 2014 -

It was the WBS Penguins taking on arch rivals the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at the PPL Center in Allentown.

Phantoms had a few chances early in the first period but Matt Murray kept it a 0-0 game. Aton Zlobin would get a nice chance just about 12:30 into tonight's game putting one on net but Rob Zepp would deflect the shot up into the netting causing a stoppage in play. The Penguins would get the first chance on the power play as the Phantoms Scott Laughton would sit for a cross check.

Just as the WBS power play takes off Nick Cousins takes a slashing call giving the Penguins 1:41 worth of 5 on 3. Derrick Pouliot would get a nice blind backhand pass to Andrew Ebbett who would put it top shelf past Zepp giving the Penguins a 1-0 lead nice power play goal.

Late in the first Tom Kostopoulos and Pierre-Luc Leblond would head to the sin bin giving the Phantoms a full 2:00 5 on 3 but With only a few second left in the first Zack Stortini would get called for playing with a broken stick taking the 5 on 3 down to a 4 on 3. That would be all for the first leaving the ice for the first intermission WBS leading Lehigh Valley 1-0.

WBS kills off the Phantoms power play to start the second and get an abbreviated :40 power play of their own but WBS gets called for too many men and Pierre-Luc LeBlond would serve it nullifying the short power play bring on 4 on 4 hockey and then a Phantoms power play. WBS handed the Phantoms some great chances for the beginning of the second with a few choice power plays but WBS penalty kill did the job keeping it a 1-0 WBS lead.

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms would even up the score at one later in the second frame as Zack Stortini would tally one for his team. The Penguins despite all the power plays the they gave the Phantoms in the second along with the 5 on 3 action, could not seem to find the handle only netting one and left the ice even with the WBS Penguins. WBS looking at 20 more minutes of hockey but needed to buckle down.

Penguins came out for the beginning of the third looking the same as when they went off the ice for the second intermission, Matt Murray really fighting to keep his team in this game with some really great saves. Power plays all around this period but no scoring to be had 5 on 4's 4 x 4's 5 on 3's you name it.  Seemed like the Refs were just handing out power plays but the WBS PK did it's job 8 times in regulation. As far as scoring after the first period it seemed the Pens could not find an opening. This game came down to two things, penalty kills and goal tending. After three periods of play it was all even at one each and heading for OT.

OT starts and you guessed it Penguins in the box Tom Kostopoulos goes for cross checking and yep the WBS PK with the assistance from Matt Murray keeps it even at one, Murray with some great saves. WBS gets a shot on the power play as Cousins gets called for holding Coach Hynes takes his time out and sets his team and they score Jean Sebastien Dea tallies the WBS OT goal making it a 2-1 victory over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
